About Marnie Old
Marnie Old is one of the country's top wine personalities and her work offers a breath of fresh air in the stuffy wine world. She is a successful wine author, a leading wine educator, an authoritative media figure and a high-profile sommelier. Marnie's first book is the acclaimed He Said Beer, She Said Wine, an entertaining debate on food pairing with co-author Sam Calagione, founder of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, which is now available in paperback from DK Publishing. Marnie's newest book Wine Secrets is a collection of concise and practical wine advice shared by 40 of the world's top wine experts, recently published by Quirk Books.
Marnie is an engaging speaker who is articulate and authoritative as well as lively and entertaining. She is in demand for hosting dinners, tastings and seminars around the country for corporate clients and non-profit organizations thanks to her eye-opening presentations and uncommon clarity in conveying complex wine concepts to novice wine drinkers. Poised and polished, Marnie brings high energy, common sense and sparkling wit to a subject that can be perceived as dull, highbrow and humorless.
Formerly the director of wine studies for Manhattan's iconic French Culinary Institute, Marnie also served as the founding education chairperson for the American Sommelier Association. She continues to teach for New York's Astor Center and Philadelphia's Temple University. Marnie designs restaurant beverage programs through her consulting company Old Wines LLC, and has assisted high-profile restaurants, like Manhattan's Morimoto. Distinctively 'guest-oriented' in menu design, her wine lists have twice been named among Food & Wine magazine's Best New Wine Lists. A leading advocate for craft beer and mentorship within the hospitality industry, Marnie is also a contributing editor for the influential trade journal Santé magazine.
